Updated 1/4/12 at 1:15 PM (PT) Corrected to say that Roker was in the L.A. area co-hosting the Tournament of Roses parade.
Just a few weeks after actor Alec Baldwin was kicked off an American Airlines flight, another NBC personality, Al Roker, was involved in an incident on the same airline, the New York Post reports.
Roker, the "Today" show’s meteorologist, was involved in a dispute that, like Baldwin’s encounter, involved a phone, the story notes. Roker was flying back to New York after hosting the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena and remained on his mobile phone ignoring requests from another couple to switch seats, the story says.
That couple was rock star Alex Van Halen and his wife, the piece adds. All three were flying first class, and according to a witness, Roker was seated on the aisle, between Van Halen and his wife, Stine Schyberg. During the incident, Roker remained glued to his phone in order to ignore the requests, the piece adds.
The story reports: “When the agent asked Roker to move to the aisle seat in the first-row center, he stated that he’s ‘allergic to dogs,’ a source tells us. A passenger with a little dog in a crate was in the row behind Roker, and moving to the aisle would have put him three seats away, rather than four.”
Van Halen and his wife ended up switching seats with people in business class, and Roker then turned off his phone, the story notes. NBC declined to comment.
As previously reported, "30 Rock’s" Baldwin was booted off an American Airlines flight after refusing to turn off his iPhone because he was in the middle of a game, "Words with Friends."
