Tablets and E-Books Surge in Popularity

Tablets and e-books have experienced a surge in popularity, with a new survey showing that the devices are now owned by nearly one-fifth of Americans, PCWorld reports.

The holidays bumped up ownership to 19% in mid-January, up from 10% in mid-December, the story reports, citing a survey from the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project.

The study doesn’t say which tablet is the most popular, although the survey mentions that the growth was partially driven by the popularity of the Amazon Kindle Fire and Barnes & Noble’s Nook, the story says. Those e-book readers are about half the price of Apple’s iPad, the piece points out.
