‘Awake’ Premiere Fails to Snap NBC Out of Its Thursday 10 p.m. Doldrums

NBC’s new series “Awake,” premiering against repeat programming on CBS and ABC, was a case of good news/bad news for the Peacock Network, TVbytheNumbers.com reports.

The good news is the show did better than the 1.4 for “The Firm” in the 18-49 demo in its spring debut in the time slot, and gave NBC its highest non-sports number for the time slot since April 2011. The bad news is it still only did a 1.9 average rating in adults 18-49.

The top show of the night — by a lot — was Fox’s two-hour “American Idol,” which pulled a 5.3 rating in 18-49. CBS’s repeat of “The Big Bang Theory” was next with a 3.2.

Fox’s 5.3 average for prime time easily won the night in the 18-49 demo, ahead of CBS (2.1 average with almost all repeats), NBC (1.9), Univision (1.4) and an all-repeat lineup on ABC (1.1).

  1. This is why NBC can’t get over the hump. Why launch a pretty decent show on a night where FOX is running American Idol. It almost guarantees failure before it hits the air. And how many people reading this site even were aware of this show launching? I saw almost no advertising for the show anywhere than on NBC (which no one watches). I talked my teens into watching with me and they loved it. They said they had seen nothing about it and texting their friends no one was watching because no one knew about it. They wouldn’t have watched it if I hadn’t talked them into it.
