CNN has ended the suspension of an on-air personality who got in trouble over tweets he sent during the Super Bowl, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Analyst Roland Martin can return to work after attracting complaints from gay organizations, including the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. The groups protested Martin’s comments concerning a commercial featuring soccer star David Beckham.

Martin tweeted: “If a dude at your Super Bowl party is hyped about Beckham’s H&M underwear ad, smack the ish out of him."

The story reports: “Though Martin claimed the tweet was meant to show his distaste for soccer and soccer fans, many felt the comments were homophobic. CNN suspended Martin shortly after.”

Martin met with GLAAD during his suspension, prompting GLAAD to announce in a statement: “Both parties came away with a better understanding of one another and look forward to continuing this dialogue."
