Comedian Eddie Izzard has joined NBC’s high-profile drama reboot of the 1960s sitcom “The Munsters,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In addition to being cast as Grandpa Munster — who was played by Al Lewis in the original CBS series — Izzard will be a producer on the pilot.

The story reports: “In the reboot, Grandpa is described as a powerful vampire with the quick wit that Lewis initially injected into the character. He’s the head of the mysterious family who continues to have Herman under his thumb.”

NBC has moved the project, from executive producers Bryan Singer and Bryan Fuller, to summer after previously trying to get it ready for the current development season, the story notes.
