On day four of the closely watched battle for morning ratings between the reigning champ, NBC’s “Today,” and the contender, ABC’s “Good Morning America” with Katie Couric sitting in all week, the champ claimed a clear victory.

“Today” won both total viewers and adults 25-54, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This was after “GMA” took a win in total viewers Wednesday morning, as previously reported.

Thursday’s fast nationals had “Today” on top with 5.073 million total viewers to “GMA’s” 4.638 million. “Today” won the 25-54 demo 2.091 million to 1.863 million.

Couric, who co-hosted “Today” with Matt Lauer for almost 10 years, is filling in this week for “GMA’s” Robin Roberts. News surfaced today that Lauer has signed a multiyear agreement to remain on the NBC morning show, as we reported earlier.

  1. Katie doesn’t have the loyal fan base or the draw that everyone believes she does. These numbers indicate that her next show is not a guaranteed success.
