"American Idol" will feature Ryan Seacrest as its host for at least two more years, as the singing competition signed him to a new deal paying him $15 million per year for two additional years, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Seacrest’s most recent contract, which spanned three years, also paid him $15 million per year, the story notes.

Fox executives were motivated to keep Seacrest on the show, which has featured him as its host since "Idol" started in 2002, the piece says.

"Seacrest has provided the show stability in what otherwise has been a game of musical chairs. Seacrest has described his role as that of a conductor who keeps all of the trains running on time," the article notes.

Despite his stable presence, the show has shed fans, with total viewers down more than 20% this season compared with a year earlier, the piece points out. "The X Factor," Fox’s other singing competition, fired host Steve Jones after its initial season.
