Details have surfaced about the arrest of one of the stars of a popular cable reality series, which we reported yesterday. The Orlando Sentinel reports that Noces Joseph LaFont, who is known as Trapper Joe on the History series “Swamp People,” was arrested Wednesday at the Buena Vista Palace hotel at Walt Disney World on domestic violence charges.
“Deputies with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office saw him shaking and punching his live-in girlfriend in the chest at the hotel,” the story reports.
Lafont’s girlfriend, Trene Marie Planche, “told deputies LaFont attempted to burn her with a cigarette as she tried to reach for a cell phone that he had on his hip,” the paper reports.
Both LaFont and Planche appeared to have been drinking, according to the report.
“LaFont told investigators that when his cell phone rang, Planche, who he had been dating for nine months and living with for six, got jealous and demanded to know who was calling,” the report says. “When she reached for the phone, he said he grabbed her and shook her in an attempt to calm her down and curb her jealousy.”
LaFont denied trying to burn Planche and said he did not hit her, the story says. Planche reportedly refused medical attention and indicated she did not plan to press charges.
