Michael Jackson’s 14-year-old daughter, who will appear Sunday on OWN’s "Oprah’s Next Chapter," explained to Winfrey why her father made his children wear masks when they were in public, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed.

"He told us when he was younger he didn’t really have a childhood,” Paris Jackson said. “He would always be stuck in the studio while other kids were playing. He wanted us to have that.”

She said that while she didn’t understand the masks at the time, she understands them now. "When we went out without him, we wouldn’t be recognized and we could have a normal childhood," she said.
