NBC’s "Munsters" reboot "Mockingbird Lane" has cast its Lily Munster, and while the character is known for her brunette hair, the role goes to a blond actress who’s well-known to television audiences: Portia de Rossi, reports Deadline.com.

The “Ally McBeal” and "Arrested Development" actress will take on the role of the female lead after another actress, Mariana Klaveno, had been cast, as previously reported. Klaveno was contingent on being released from ABC’s pilot "Devious Maids" and ABC refused to release her, prompting NBC to look for another Lily, the story notes.

"Mockingbird Lane," written by Bryan Fuller and directed by Bryan Singer, is a new look at the 1960s sitcom about a family of monsters and their "plain" cousin. This time around, the project is a drama. Jerry O’Connell will play the patriarch, Herman Munster.

Yvonne De Carlo played the dark-haired Lily in the original TV sitcom.

  1. Portia has the comedy chops to pull off “Lilly”. She was a scream on “Better Off Ted”

  2. Based on Ally McBeal, she can also do drama. Still, it’s a bummer that ABC wouldn’t let the producers get their first pick for the role.

  3. I’m sure she’ll be fine in the role. I’m more worried about Jerry O’Connell playing Herman. My biggest worry about this project is that it will probably suck dead monkey testes.
