NBC is bringing a Broadway star on board at one of its series, EW.com’s Inside TV reports. Set to return at midseason, “Smash” is adding Jeremy Jordan to the lineup.

Jordan, who is playing Jack Kelly in the Broadway production “Newsies,” will play a singer from Brooklyn, the piece notes. Jordan received a Tony Award nomination for his work in the musical, and will remain with the stage show while taping the series, the piece adds.

The story reports: “The NBC drama is looking to fill several roles now that it has decided to cut several characters. Gone are philandering fiance Dev (Raza Jaffrey), devious assistant Ellis (Jaime Cepero), Julia’s Husband Frank (Brian d’Arcy James) and Julia’s former lover Michael (Will Chase).”
