Who Wins in ‘American Idol’s’ Diva Smackdown? Seacrest Offers His Take

“American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest says he knows who the winner was in the heated verbal exchange between the show’s dueling divas, Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey.

The winner, according to Seacrest, was the show itself, which he apparently thinks will be better — and presumably, will also reap a ratings bump — as a result of the feud. The New York Daily News quotes Seacrest saying on his radio show today: "We want that! We want them to be on this panel together.”

Seacrest adds: “This is a good team, a great team, to go out and look for the next American Idol … the feedback that they give is very good."

Seacrest admits that the shouting match got “intense,” the story notes. The taping reportedly was halted while Minaj and Carey exchanged profanities. (Click here to see a video clip.)

“Minaj, a wig-wearing wacko rap superstar, and Carey, a notoriously difficult diva, blew their stacks at each other when they disagreed about a contestant during ‘Idol’ auditions in Charlotte, N.C.,” the story reports. “Carey called Minaj a ‘b***h,’ and the ‘Your Love’ singer threatened, ‘I’m gonna knock you out!’”

Seacrest, who was reportedly outside the room when things first went awry, admitted: "It got heated between Nicki and Mariah. It was intense! I’ll be honest with you. … It went far last night. It did get intense."

But he added: “There’s nothing wrong with disagreeing. … That’s gonna happen, and it’s OK."

  1. Could this have been staged, just to get ratings? Just wondering.
