Cox Cable and Time Warner Cable have reached an agreement on the carriage of SportsNet, Southern California’s new local TV channel centered on the Los Angeles Lakers, the L.A. Times reports.

“The agreement ends a standoff between the two companies that had been going on for weeks,” the story reports. “Cox is expected to start carrying SportsNet and its Spanish-language companion channel Deportes early this week and in time for Wednesday’s Lakers game against the Utah Jazz.”

DirecTV and Dish Network continue to hold out on a deal with Time Warner Cable for the channel.

“Time Warner Cable hopes that having Cox on board will put more pressure on DirecTV to also start carrying the channel. Getting Dish to carry it is seen as more of a long shot given the company’s well-known reluctance to carry high-priced sports programming such as SportsNet,” the piece reports.

Cox Cable, with about 1.2 million subscribers in Southern California, is the third-largest pay-TV distributor in the region, the report notes. Time Warner Cable, with 2.3 million subscribers in the area, and DirecTV, with 1.7 million, are No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.
