An actress who’s well-known to U.S. movie goers and television audiences is considering running for Senate in her home state of Kentucky. TV Guide reports that Ashley Judd is contemplating mounting a challenge to Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in 2014.

Judd is known for her feature film roles but also starred last year in the ABC thriller “Missing” and has previously appeared in the TV series “Sisters” and in TV movies including “Norma Jean & Marilyn.” She has played lead roles in the features “Kiss the Girls,” “Double Jeopardy,” “Where the Heart Is” and “Ruby in Paradise,” among others.

Judd is a part of the prominent entertainment family that also includes country music stars Naomi Judd and Wynonna Judd, her mother and half-sister, respectively. Ashley Judd is married to three-time Indy 500 champion Dario Franchitti.

Kentucky Congressman John Yarmuth confirmed Judd, known for her political activism, is getting more serious about politics. Yarmuth is quoted as saying: "I think she’s very interested in becoming a candidate for some office, whether it’s next year against Mitch McConnell or it’s against Rand Paul, whether it’s for some other office I don’t know, but she’s a very serious potential candidate.”

Naomi Judd sounded unenthusiastic about her daughter’s potential political career during a recent interview with Larry King, telling him: "As of right now, she doesn’t know. I can tell you she’s very interested in changing the world and she knows that politics unfortunately right now is one of the ways she could do that."
