Why Piers Morgan Says He Might ‘Deport Himself’ From the U.S.

Jan 2, 2013  •  Post A Comment

In an article in the U.K.’s Daily Mail, CNN host Piers Morgan writes that he may deport himself from the U.S. if the country won’t change its "crazy gun laws."

Morgan wrote about his reaction to a petition created on a White House website that demands his deportation for "attacking the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution."

As previously reported, the petition was started after Morgan interviewed Gun Owners of America executive director Larry Pratt and called him "an unbelievably stupid man."

"The concerted effort to get me thrown out of the country — which has so far gathered more than 90,000 signatures — struck me as rather ironic, given that by expressing my opinion I was merely exercising my rights, as a legal US resident, under the 1st Amendment, which protects free speech," Morgan writes in The Daily Mail.

"My argument with guns is not based on some universal, pathological hatred of them. I’m not a pacifist. Guns win necessary wars and defeat tyrannical regimes like the Nazis," he wrote.

He added: "But where I have a big problem is when the unfortunately ambiguous wording of the 2nd Amendment is twisted to mean that anyone in America can have any firearm they want, however powerful, and in whatever quantity they want."

As for the movement to deport him, Morgan wrote: "I can spare those Americans who want me deported a lot of effort by saying this: If you don’t change your gun laws to at least try to stop this relentless tidal wave of murderous carnage, then you don’t have to worry about deporting me.

"Although I love the country as a second home and one that has treated me incredibly well, I would, as a concerned parent first — and latterly, of a one-year-old daughter who may attend an American elementary school like Sandy Hook in three years’ time — seriously consider deporting myself."

  1. “WHEN ANY NATION MISTRUSTS IT’S CITIZENS WITH GUNS, IT IS SENDING A CLEAR MESSAGE.
IT NO LONGER TRUSTS IT’S CITIZENS BECAUSE SUCH A GOVERNMENT HAS EVIL PLANS.”
    – GEORGE WASHINGTON

  2. Please do us all a favor and leave the US and CNN

  3. Can I help you pack? Barbra Streisand threatened to leave the U.S. if Bush was elected. Janeane Garofalo swore she’d crawl through broken glass to apologize to Bush if he won the 2004 election. Pompous jerks who think they actually have some clout. The second amendment was written to support the first and the other eight – to protect people from the government. The first amendment has run amok much more than the practitioners of the second. What happened to treason for revealing national secrets, defamation of character, giving out a map of where gun owners live, or just out-and-out lying without fear of prosecution? They publish warning signs on cigarettes, let’s get out a list of warning signs people (especially parents) need to look for to get the psychos the help they need before they find a weapon, be it knife, gun or bomb. More people have died in Chicago (a heavily gun-regulated city) in the ten past years than have died in Afghanistan. Let’s outlaw Chicago!

  4. Tom M – Well said. Most people do not realize the 2nd amendment is there to protect all the other ones. Look at history, the 1st thing a despot does is confiscate all the guns. Guns in the hands of law abiding citizens are not the problem. A person unable to get the help they need for themselves or loved ones is.

  5. People like Piers Morgan only have one way to counter someone else’s option, is to interrupt them as often as possible with name calling and frivolous questions. Piers only cares that his rights are protected, the HELL with anyone else, he believes he is prefect

  6. Im from the UK, and can i just say we dont want him back. We should start a petition to keep him out

  7. “try to stop this relentless tidal wave of murderous carnage”. What relentless tidal wave? A handful of mass murders over the last 20 years. While I’ll admit one is one more than enough but lets get real here. Theres no “relentless tidal wave of murderous carnage”. what a stupid, untrue, and irresponsible statement. Go away. Please.

  8. After listening to the sort of comments like those by Mr. Morgan and assorted other anti-gun nuts, and considering the number of guns in this country, the really amazing thing is that so few are killed with guns.
Unless he were engaged in a criminal activity, in which case the odds would be greatly increased, Mr. Morgan stands a much greater risk of being killed in a car accident than by someone (deranged or not) with a gun.
And you never hear about more “car control” laws after someone kills another person with an automobile. If the driver is an elderly person you might hear calls for a maximum driving age or if the driver is drunk, calls for more stringent DUI enforcement… but never more government control of cars or a ban on automobiles.
But when something involves guns… irrationality runs rampant.

  9. Thank you! I hate it when people from other coutries come here, make a ton of money then criticize it. As if Britain is a perfect place to live. Seriously, go home!

  10. From where did you get this quote? More specifically, when and where did Washington say this?

  11. Looks like old Piers didn’t study the Revolution War much.Don’t say it didn’t happen, it did. They didn’t think it would happen in 1861 either.
