Controversial Cable Reality Show to Return for a Second Season

A cable reality show that has attracted quite a bit of attention — much of it negative — has earned a renewal and will be back for a second season. The series is TLC’s “Breaking Amish.”

The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports: “The popular unscripted series will reunite the five former Amish and Mennonite men and women from the first cast.”

Season two will consist of eight one-hour episodes, the story reports, with production already under way.

“’Breaking Amish,’ which averaged a robust 3.2 million viewers for the cable network during its freshman run, drew criticism for reports of casting individuals long-removed from the Amish and Mennonite communities,” the report notes. “Still, the same group — Abe, Rebecca, Kate, Sabrina and Jeremiah — will be part of the second order, which moves the action from New York City to Florida.”

The piece notes that season two promises “more culture shock, financial woes, in-fighting and surprise visits.”

The show’s first season yielded TLC’s highest ratings ever for a freshman show, the piece notes. But among the problems that have followed the series, it was hit with fraud allegations, as we reported back in September.
