The star of a 1990s TV drama series that became a cultural phenomenon and attracted an avid cult following is urging fans to voice their support for a feature film based on the series.

David Duchovny encouraged fans of the sci-fi drama "The X-Files" to write to Fox in support of a third movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Duchovny, who appeared on "The Tonight Show," said fans should send letters to Fox to "get ’em going." He added, "I’ll play Fox Mulder forever."

The series aired on Fox from 1993-2002, and led to two movies. The first, “The X-Files,” released in 1998, grossed about $189 million worldwide at the box office, but the second, the 2008 release “The X-Files: I Want to Believe,” earned only $68 million, the story adds.
