A pivotal character on Showtime’s acclaimed terrorist drama “Homeland” won’t be back as a regular. Deadline.com reports that David Marciano, the actor who has played the snoop Virgil since "Homeland’s” pilot, won’t return to the show for the third season as a regular, although he could appear as a recurring guest star.

Marciano follows Diego Klattenhoff in moving away from a regular role on the show, the story says. Three other regulars, meanwhile — David Harewood, Jamie Sheridan and Navid Negahban — left as their characters were killed off.

The story adds, "The rest of ‘Homeland’s’ regular cast, led by Claire Danes, Damian Lewis, Mandy Patinkin and Morena Baccarin, will likely return in their previous capacity."
