Jane Henson, Widow of Jim Henson and a Partner in the Muppets, Dies at 78

Jane Henson, who helped create, design and market the Muppets, has died, reports the Los Angeles Times. She was 78.

Henson met her husband, Jim Henson, in a puppetry class at the University of Maryland in the 1950s, with Henson later asking her to join him on a TV show called "Sam and Friends, which combined marionettes and puppets. The pair married in 1959.

Jane Henson became his creative and business partner in the franchise that created such memorable puppet characters as Miss Piggy, Kermit and Gonzo, and was involved in "Sesame Street" characters such as Cookie Monster and Bert and Ernie.

She also served on the board of the Jim Henson Foundation. Her husband died in 1990.
