An announcer who has been a fixture of TV sports for decades was arrested over the weekend. The Associated Press reports that "Sunday Night Football" announcer Al Michaels was arrested Friday night on suspicion of drunken driving.

Michaels, 68, was pulled over in Santa Monica at about 9:30 p.m. Friday after officers reportedly saw him make an illegal U-turn, the story says. He was taken the station, where his blood alcohol level reportedly was found to be over the legal limit.

"We are aware of the situation and we’ve been in contact with Al," an NBC Sports spokesman said. "We have no further comment at this time."

"An Emmy Award winner and broadcaster on ‘Sunday Night Football,’ the 68-year-old Michaels spent nearly three decades at ABC Sports before moving to NBC in 2007," the story reports. "Michaels worked NFL games and other sports for ABC, and called ‘Monday Night Football’ for nearly 20 years. He also is known for his call of the U.S.-Soviet Union ‘Miracle on Ice’ game at the 1980 Winter Olympics and the earthquake-interrupted Game 3 of the 1989 World Series."

Michaels, who received the Vin Scully Lifetime Achievement Award in Sports Broadcasting last year, was ordered to appear in court June 26, the story notes.

  1. Hi, just a typo correction. ‘Tosaw’ should be ‘saw’. Have a good day.

  2. So we just add another one to the list of those driving while drunk …
