Four NBC comedies have been canceled, while the network renewed one sitcom that has been a fan favorite.

The cancellations of four shows that have been on the bubble indicate that NBC is undergoing a comedy makeover, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Show Tracker.

The canceled shows include "1600 Penn," which earned anemic ratings, and "Up All Night," which had a series of upheavals including the departure of its star Christina Applegate. Also canceled are "Guys with Kids," which earned mediocre ratings, and "Whitney," which suffered from dwindling viewership.

NBC renewed the fan favorite "Parks and Recreation" for a sixth season, despite modest ratings. The show drew 3 million viewers a week during the past season, but has become a critical favorite with star Amy Poehler earning Emmy and Golden Globe nominations, notes the Times’ Show Tracker in a separate report.

  1. I kind of thought they’d kill Whitney, which is why I’m really glad they went with a season-ender that kind of tied things up for Whitney and Alex but especially Roxanne and Mark.
