NBC Cancels Series

NBC has pulled the plug on a prime-time series after it returned with softer numbers this summer. The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports that the network has retired Betty White’s "Off Their Rockers."

The series finished its second season Tuesday, in a finale featuring both White and Ed Asner. Its ratings rebounded "significantly" for the finale, although the previous week the show pulled a series-low 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demo, the piece adds. The finale delivered a 1.0.

"Off Their Rockers" featured White emceeing pranks played by older people on younger victims, in a hidden-camera style like "Candid Camera."

TVbytheNumbers.com adds: "The entire season averaged a 1.5 adults 18-49 rating, not much worse than some of NBC’s single-camera scripted comedies. However, it was one of the least DVR’d shows on television, while its ‘cult’ comedies like ‘Community’ have a passionate fan base and rise significantly in Live + 7 ratings."
