New NBC Series Bows to Soft Numbers; CBS’s Summer Hit Slips

Monday’s overnight ratings weren’t horrible for the broadcast networks — at least not by recent standards — but the numbers didn’t give anyone much to cheer about, either. Based on Nielsen overnights for the key 18-49 demo, ABC and CBS finished in a tie for No. 1 in prime time with 1.7 average ratings.

TVbytheNumbers.com reports that CBS’s modest summer drama hit "Under the Dome" lost a little ground — but still had enough to come in as the top show of the night on broadcast. "Dome" lost 7% from a week ago, settling for a 2.7 average in viewers 18-49. Combined with a lineup of repeat programming, that was enough for CBS to match ABC’s total with all fresh programming.

ABC saw its two-hour "The Bachelorette" rise 6% from last week to deliver a 1.9 average in 18-49. Leading out from "Bachelorette" at 10 p.m., "Mistresses" showed signs of life, rising 9% from last week’s series low to a 1.2.

NBC debuted its new series "Get Out Alive With Bear Grylls" and settled for a 1.4 average in adults 18-49 — 18% below the premiere of "Stars Earn Stripes" last August. The rest of the NBC lineup was down from last week, with "American Ninja Warrior" slipping 6% from its two-hour premiere to a 1.6 and "Siberia" losing 10% from the premiere to record a 1.0.

Fox aired all repeats, and it showed, with Fox coming in a distant fifth among the broadcast nets.

For prime time overall, ABC and CBS led the standings in viewers 18-49 with their 1.7 averages, followed by Univision (1.5), NBC (1.3) and Fox (0.6). CBS moved ahead in total viewers with 6.5 million, topping ABC (5.9 million), NBC (4.0 million), Univision (3.8 million) and Fox (1.5 million).
