A high-ranking executive on the comedy side at Fox is stepping down. Writing on Deadline.com, Nellie Andreeva reports that Senior VP Marcus Wiley, who has been co-heading the network’s comedy department, is leaving to shift into producing.

Wiley is reportedly finalizing a multiyear first-look deal with the network. Suzanna Makkos, who has been running the department with Wiley, will now run the unit alone, the story says.

Wiley started at the network in 1999 as an assistant to David Nevins, but left to work at the William Morris Agency for five years, the piece notes.

"He is known in the industry for his temper and passion for talent," Andreeva writes.

Wiley rejoined Fox in 2008, and helped bring several shows to the network’s comedy lineup, including "Raising Hope," "New Girl" and "The Mindy Project."

Andreeva writes: "But after recently turning 40, Wiley started pondering what his end game would be. ‘I came back to Fox to learn the mentality on a high level and take that into being a producer,’ Wiley said."

He plans to focus on live-action and animated comedy projects, and will also expand into drama, the story adds.
