Chris Pursell, a longtime writer on the syndication beat at TelevisionWeek, has traded in his reporter’s pad and pencil to join Sony Pictures Television as a VP of media relations.

He will report to Paula Askanas, senior VP of media relations and promotions, who said Mr. Pursell will handle a number of syndication properties, including the new series “Life & Style” and “Pat Croce: Moving In.” In addition, Mr. Pursell will handle the returning series “Judge Hatchett,” along with off-net programs and library titles.

Ms. Askanas said Mr. Pursell’s experience in the syndication world is a “great addition” to the company’s media relations department. “Syndication is an important part of our business and we are thrilled to have Chris join the team,” she said.

In late August, Mr. Pursell left TVWeek, where he had led coverage of the TV syndication business and coordinated the annual Syndication Roundtable, which features industry experts discussing topics affecting syndication.

He served as syndication editor and as a reporter at TVWeek. Mr. Pursell previously was a reporter and associate editor for Daily Variety, and has written about politics and financial markets as a reporter for The Mexico City News.
