‘American Idol’ Returns Jan. 18

Fox announced Wednesday its music reality series “American Idol” will premiere for its fourth season with a special two-hour episode Tuesday, Jan. 18, at 8 p.m. (ET).

The premiere chronicles last summer’s auditions, which took place in Cleveland, St. Louis, Washington, New Orleans, Las Vegas and San Francisco. “American Idol” will air an additional hour of audition footage Wednesday, Jan. 19, at 8 p.m., and for the next two consecutive Tuesdays and Wednesdays-Jan. 25 and 26 and Feb. 1 and 2. Semifinal rounds air Tuesdays, Feb. 8 and 15, at 8 p.m. and Wednesdays, Feb. 9 and 16. The first 90-minute performance show featuring the finalists airs Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 8:30 p.m.
