ESPN announced Wednesday it has greenlighted its previously announced development of “Four Minutes,” an original movie based on the story of Roger Bannister, who broke the four-minute mile in 1954. The movie will premiere on ESPN2–the original movie debut is a first for the network–this fall.

“Doing what some felt was impossible, running the first sub–four minute mile, is an enduring athletic milestone,” said Mark Shapiro, ESPN executive VP of programming and production. “Some 50 years later, Bannister’s achievement continues to inspire.”
