NASCAR Mulling Creation of Content for News Organizations

In an attempt to help raise NASCAR profile in media coverage, Chairman and CEO Brian France said Tuesday that he is considering developing content that could be used by news organizations.

The move would address what Mr. France described as declining budgets at many news organizations as well as the lack of coverage for a sport that consistently draws large audiences. He discussed the idea during a general session Tuesday at the CTAM Summit in Philadelphia.

While there are no firm plans in place, Mr. France said, he envisions creating an Associated Press-type of service that would be available to a broad swath of news organizations, including newspapers and television news operations.

Mr. France said it was unlikely at this point that NASCAR would launch its own cable channel, but said with news-gathering budgets being cut, NASCAR is not getting its fair share of press, even as NASCAR events consistently draw huge audiences.
