MGM Names Lee to Head New Media Division

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios has named Douglas Lee executive VP and head of the studio’s New Media division, which will explore ways to distribute MGM films and television shows through new digital media channels, the company said Thursday.

Mr. Lee will be responsible for leading the studio’s efforts to distribute MGM’s film and television libraries through new broadband and wireless outlets, as well as mapping out the studio’s strategy for digital-media growth.

“MGM will be making significant moves in terms of new platforms, ranging from TV and the Internet to wireless, mobile and more,” said MGM Chairman and CEO Harry Sloan in a statement.

Mr. Lee joins MGM from Lee Consulting, a New York-based company he founded and counted as clients companies such as Comcast Corp., Court TV and The Hinduja Group, India’s largest cable operator. Before that, Mr. Lee held executive positions at Universal Television, 20th Century Fox Film and MTV Networks, where he was involved in the launch of cable channel Noggin.
