The Big 10 Conference is teaming with Fox Cable Networks to create the Big 10 Channel, which will be carried by DirecTV beginning in August 2007.

The conference also has reached a 10-year national rights contract with ABC and ESPN that extends their relationship. The new deal gives the networks the right to televise up to 41 Big 10 football games, about 60 men’s basketball games and 100 women’s basketball and volleyball events. Big 10 events also will be seen on other ESPN outlets, such as ESPN.com, Mobile ESPN and ESPN VOD.

The Big 10 Channel will carry many of the games and events previously available only through syndication. Big 10 Channel content will also be available through alternative media platforms, such as the Internet, iPods and cellphones.

Fox will work to get the Big 10 Channel carried on other cable operators and satellite distributors.
