The CW is joining forces with social networking Web site MySpace.com to create an online hub that will coincide with the network’s launch in September.

The CW “Free to Be” Community Hub will allow users to view video content, including show clips, interviews, behind-the-scenes shots and exclusive footage, from select CW series. The hub also features CW series and star profiles, discussion forums, AOL Instant Messenger icons and branded downloads. The page creates a central area that will act as a home base for users to connect with others and participate in contests, including The CW MySpace Band Competition, which begins Sept. 11.

Rick Haskins, executive VP of marketing and brand strategy for The CW, and Shawn Gold, senior VP of marketing and content for MySpace.com, made the announcement Thursday..

Capitalizing on MySpace’s origin as a site where bands could build a fan presence, the band competition lets hopefuls submit original songs for a chance to perform on The CW’s drama “Supernatural.” The network will choose 10 semifinalists and post them on the site, allowing users to vote for their favorite. The network will choose the winning band from the top three vote-getters.

On Sept. 20, the day the network launches with a two-hour premiere of the latest installment of “America’s Next Top Model,” The CW will dominate MySpace’s home page with ads, banners and links as part of its marketing campaign.
