As expected, HBO has renewed its hit series “Entourage” for a fourth season, the network announced Wednesday.

The network has ordered 12 new episodes to run in 2007. In addition, seven holdover episodes from the third season will be televised early next year.

During the first two seasons, the series barely treaded water in the ratings, averaging about 1.9 million viewers. This year the show enjoyed a fair-size increase, averaging 2.5 million viewers, as well as gaining a boost from critical acclaim and awards recognition. The show received five Emmy nominations, and co-star Jeremy Piven won for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series.
