Paul Friedman has gotten a title bump that makes him the second in command at CBS News just a year after he joined the division as VP in charge of hard news operations and coverage. Mr. Friedman also is the executive in charge of weekday “CBS Evening News” editions anchored by Katie Couric and those on the weekend, has been named senior CVP of CBS News.
“This is a recognition that Paul has become my principal deputy, even beyond his primary responsibilities,” said CBS News and Sports President Sean McManus in Wednesday’s announcement. “I look forward to working with him even more closely as we continue to aggressively rebuild and move CBS News forward.”
Mr. Friedman spent 21 years at ABC News before he left in 2003. During the years before joining CBS News, he taught, consulted and was executive producer of The Wall Street Journal’s “The Journal Report” on PBS from 2003 to 2005.
