WWE Pins Late Night

Now that those pencilnecks from “Saturday Night Live” have headed off for their summer vacations, NBC has some serious action planned for late night.
“Saturday Night’s Main Event” returns June 2, featuring many of World Wrestling Entertainment’s biggest characters.
NBC Universal has a deal with WWE for “Monday Night Raw,” which appears on top-rated USA Network; “Main Event” brings sports entertainment to NBC’s broadcast channel. WWE action also is featured on The CW’s “Friday Night Smackdown.”
On the first episode of “Main Event,” the main event is a biggie.
WWE Champion John Cena and the 7-foot, 3-inch, 420-pound The Great Khali will grapple to get ready for their pay-per-view rematch for the championship the following night.
In another key match, Batista teams up with Chris Benoit against world heavyweight champion Edge and United States champion MVP.
WWE also promises a match that pits its “strangest and smallest” stars head-to-head “in a match that can only be seen to be believed.”
“Saturday Night’s Main Event” debuted on NBC in late night as a replacement for “Saturday Night Live” repeats in 1985 and originally ran through 1992.
