The New York Police Department gave ABC News employees clearance Friday afternoon to return to their headquarters in New York City’s Upper West Side following the investigation of an anthrax scare.
Field tests conducted on a suspicious letter received at “Good Morning America” came back negative, according to an ABC News spokeswoman.
“Law enforcement has given us the all clear to return to normal operations in all areas,” the spokeswoman said in a statement.
A letter that mentioned anthrax, a potentially lethal bacterium, was received midday Friday in offices assigned to “GMA.”
An ABC News spokesperson declined to comment on talk going around TV circles Friday afternoon that the letter was addressed to “GMA” weatherman Sam Champion.
In an internal memo, ABC News Senior VP Dan Renaldo said the company immediately notified the NYPD, which investigated the situation.
He said the area around the office was closed down “out of an abundance of caution” as they awaited additional information from authorities.

  1. Whomever sent such a message to ABC should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, (with or without actual anthrax).
Be it ABC News-GMA, or John’s Cleaners, there is no space for this to ever occur, by threat or reality.
    Go get’em NYPD!
