CW Upbeat on Upfront Sales

Jun 22, 2007  •  Post A Comment

The CW has completed its upfront sales and said it did better than expected.
“In just our second upfront we exceeded our revenue goals, adding over a dozen new advertisers with great strength in categories like wireless, retail and theatrical, a bull’s-eye for The CW’s young adult viewers,” said Bill Morningstar, executive VP of ad sales at the network.
The CW declined to provide specific figures on its performance in the upfront, but sources familiar with the negotiations said it took in commitments worth about $640 million, up slightly from last year.
Prices on a cost-per-thousand-viewers basis were up 11 percent-12 percent.
However, because the CW was more affected by the change to commercial ratings due to its young channel-flipping viewers, more of that increase probably was the result of the currency change than it was for the other broadcast networks.
