Joost Appoints Volpi as CEO

Jun 5, 2007  •  Post A Comment

Internet TV service Joost appointed Cisco veteran Mike Volpi as CEO. He succeeds Joost’s founding CEO, Fredrik de Wahl, who stays on as chief strategy officer.
Mr. Volpi begins immediately, Joost said. “Mike brings unparalleled leadership and technology expertise that will enable us to accelerate the growth of the company,” Mr. de Wahl said in a statement.
Mr. Volpi spent 13 years at Cisco, most recently as senior VP and general manager for Cisco’s routing and service provider technology group, which included Scientific Atlanta. He acquired more than 70 companies during his time at Cisco.
Joost was founded in 2006 by Janus Friis and Niklas Zennstrom, the same team that built Internet sensations Kazaa and Skype that disrupted the music and long distance telephone businesses respectively.
Joost, currently in beta, is angling to become a broadband alternative to broadcast and cable television. The company is currently pursuing partnerships with consumer electronics companies that would allow Joost to be incorporated into TV sets and other TV gadgets to bring the service into the living room.
