Update: NBC, ABC Kill Plans for Paris Hilton Interview
NBC News is scrambling to put in place players and pieces to air a Paris Hilton edition of “Dateline NBC” on Wednesday night, people familiar with the situation said. A spokesperson denied the network is planning the show.
Despite numerous reports to the contrary in the last two days, the spokesperson also insisted that NBC Universal is not paying up to $1 million for the first post-incarceration interview of Ms. Hilton. “Today” co-anchor Meredith Vieira would conduct the interview, according to press reports.
The so-called celebutante is scheduled to be released from a Los Angeles jail next week after completing her sentence for driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license.
“A million dollars is not changing hands,” and there is no commitment to a “Dateline” special, the spokesperson said.
In a phone interview telecast on E! Entertainment Thursday night, Ms. Hilton told Ryan Seacrest: “I’m so much more grateful for everything that I have, even just to have a pillow at night or food. You know my gratitude has gone up so much and I just realize that the media used me to make fun of and be mean about it. [I’m] sick of it and I want to use my fame in a good way.”

  1. It’s probably true that NBC is paying for the interview. Network News was better when it was on for 15 minutes and the Huntleys, Brinkleys and Cronkites ruled. With all the negative things happening in the world, the best NBC can come up with is a no-talented spoiled rich brat who will be going back to her spoiled rich antics as soon as she is free. And NBC is buying into it. Sadder that the ratings will be high.

  2. totally agree! hilton is fooling some but most of us know better… and it is a shame that the numbers will be off the scale. in the grand scheme of things, they will most likely make this money up in increased ad cost they will probably charge…

  3. Does NBC really believe that the majority of the viewing public actually gives a damn about this abundantly wealthy, dim-witted and morally deficient tramp. Surely, this woman has got to be the poster child of “How I hope my daughter does not turn out to be”.
The feeding frenzy for news about her latest poor choice in judgment is of interest only to the news media clowns that believe we are also voyeurs of the same filth that interest only them.
Please provide us with news that is important to our survival in this difficult world. Perhaps you could consider performing a similar ongoing comprehensive observation on our elected officials and reporting their transgressions fully and accurately. There is without a doubt enough material in this task alone to be of immensely valuable benefit to your viewers.
