NBC Yanks ‘Lights’ Repeats

NBC has yanked its summer repeat run of “Friday Night Lights.”
The network aired three episodes of the critically acclaimed “Lights” on consecutive Sunday nights starting May 27. The repeats averaged a .9 rating—modest, even for summer reruns—among adults 18 to 49, according to Nielsen.
NBC yanked “Lights” off the schedule in favor of “Law & Order” episodes, which tend to fair better in repeats. Last night’s episode garnered a 1.3.
An NBC spokesman said the network still hopes to re-air “Lights” in late August or early September in order to better take advantage of the planned DVD release of the first season.
The network might bring the first season back as a marathon.
“Lights” was developed by NBC’s former Entertainment President Kevin Reilly, who left the network amid an executive shakeup last month. Though a second season of “Lights” remains on the fall schedule, fans have worried whether the new network administration led by co-chair Ben Silverman would support the show with the same level of enthusiasm.
When NBC renewed “Lights,” the network announced plans to run the show’s entire first season this summer to help boost viewership for the fall debut of season two. Pulling the series could be seen as an indication that network enthusiasm for “Lights” is waning, though NBC publicity sources emphasized the network plans to seek a more protected time period for the show later in the summer.
Also, sources said NBC has finished its deal to sign ‘N Sync singer Joey Fatone to host its upcoming game show “The Spelling Bee,” which NBC rushed to get on the air and beat Fox’s similar “Don’t Forget the Lyrics!”

  1. I think you meant to write that Joey Fatone is set to host “The SINGING Bee”, not “The SPELLING Bee.” Right?
