TLC is launching what it calls a real reality show about real models.
“A Model Life With Petra Nemcova” premieres July 13 and runs for eight weeks, sponsored by Saab.
The cable series will follow Ms. Nemcova, famous for surviving the 2004 tsunami in Asia, and six new models from their first test shoot to New York’s fashion week.
Ms. Nemcova mentors the younger models, offering them tips on the business.
Over the span of several weeks, the six girls live through the harsh business of modeling, ranging from finicky photographers and clothing designers to contradictory advice on weight and body image from bookers and nutritionists, the network says. Throughout the process, Next Modeling evaluates their potential and ultimately determines how many of the models deserve a contract with the agency at the end of the series.
The prospects picked by Ms. Nemcova and Joel Wilkenfeld, co-president of Next, come from far-flung locales ranging from Malibu to Brazil.
The series is produced by 25/7 Productions in association with the Mottola Co. Dave Broome is the executive producer for 25/7 and Tommy Mottola and Jeb Brien are executive producers for the Mottola Co. Sara Kozak is executive producer for TLC.
