Reveille Revamps Management

Jul 10, 2007  •  Post A Comment

Production company Reveille announced a new management structure now that founder and CEO Ben Silverman has taken the entertainment reins at NBC.
Rather than instilling a new overseer to replace Mr. Silverman, the company’s four top executives will jointly run the company while continuing to manage their various departments.
In addition, Reveille has extended its first-look deal with NBC.
Operations of the company that has produced hits including “The Office” and “Ugly Betty” will be jointly led by Howard Owens, co-head of domestic television and head of digital; Mark Koops, co-head of domestic television; Chris Grant, head of worldwide distribution and president, Reveille International; and Lee Rierson, head of worldwide business and operations. All four also will have the title of managing director.
Since he was hired as co-chair of NBC Entertainment last month, Mr. Silverman has relinquished direct control of Reveille, but continues to hold a financial stake in the company. Industry insiders have wondered whether Mr. Silverman can run NBC and profit from Reveille without having a day-to-day conflict of interest.
Mr. Grant acknowledged there’s an advantage afforded by Mr. Silverman’s hire, noting Reveille’s expanded first-look NBC deal is “only natural given the [former Reveille] CEO is now running the network. … It makes sense for our relationship to expand. We know what Ben is looking for better than anybody because we worked with him for 10 years.”
Furthermore, by not replacing Mr. Silverman with new leadership, Reveille could be seen as keeping a place open for its absent founder.
“This is Ben Silverman’s company, he created it, and if we’re ever lucky enough to have him come back, that would be amazing,” Mr. Grant said. “But this [arrangement] has nothing to do with leaving a space open for him to come back to us.”
