Comedian-Actress Sherri Shepherd Joins ABC’s ‘The View’

Barbara Walters confirmed what she said was “the worst-kept secret of the month,” by opening “The View” Monday with the announcement that comedian-actress Sherri Shepherd is the new permanent member of the ABC Daytime show’s ensemble that welcomed Whoopi Goldberg as the moderator a week ago.
Ms. Shepherd had been a front-runner over the months of tryouts to join co-executive producer and creator Ms. Walters, comedian Joy Behar and resident conservative Elisabeth Hasselbeck in the spot that had been open since the exit of Star Jones at the end of the 2005-2006 season.
As she took her seat, Ms. Shepherd gushed: “I’m actually one of the girls. I’m like here and it’s all good.”
In a videotaped profile, Ms. Shepherd said she has often described herself, as her TV career grew, as “the black girl on all the white shows.”
However, in her guest appearances, Ms. Shepherd has taken a number of conservative positions, which means the show’s core ensemble will have a more even balance racial and philosophical balance than at any time in the daytime show’s 11 seasons.
