BitTorrent Appoints Walker CEO

Oct 17, 2007  •  Post A Comment

Peer-to-peer network BitTorrent shuffled its executive suite today, appointing Douglas Walker as chief executive officer.
The company’s current CEO Bram Cohen, also the inventor, will now work as chief scientist. President Ashwin Navin remains in the same role.
BitTorrent is at a crucial point in its growth as peer-to-peer networks work to shed their legacies in piracy to become the technological underpinning for content delivery online.
“Building scalable software is our forte, but we recognized the need for BitTorrent to scale as a company, therefore Ashwin and I spent the better part of this year looking for the right leader to continue the success we’ve demonstrated since we started the company,” Mr. Cohen said in a statement.
Mr. Walker previously served as CEO of software company Alias Systems. In addition, BitTorrent hired Eric Klinker as chief technology officer. He previously served as CTO for technology firm Internap.
