Social networking site MySpace Thursday announced the global launch of the original Internet series “Quarterlife.”
The new series, about a young woman who spills her friends’ secrets in her video blog, is created and owned by Marshall Herskovitz and Edward Zwick, the Emmy Award-winning duo behind TV series “My So-Called Life” and “thirtysomething” and the feature film “Blood Diamond.”
“Quarterlife” will premiere the first of its 36 eight-minute episodes Nov. 11 on MySpaceTV. New episodes thereafter will debut every Sunday and Thursday at 12 a.m. PST.
The endeavor marks the first time a network-quality series has been produced directly for the Internet, as well as the first time an independent project has been owned and controlled by its creators, the company said.
“We believe that Internet content can be just as creative and engaging as what you see on TV and in the movies, and that’s what we set out to accomplish in creating ‘Quarterlife,’” Mr. Herskovitz said. “‘Quarterlife’ is truly representative of our vision and has been one of the most liberating and rewarding experiences of my career.”
“Marshall and Ed are legends in the television business, and we’re beyond thrilled MySpace has become their digital playground,” Jeff Berman, general manager of MySpaceTV, said in a statement.
Toyota joins MySpace as a sponsor.
Sponsor branding will be featured prominently on the “Quarterlife” profile, along with in-stream advertising, MySpace said.
