Entertainment industry veterans Jeff Sagansky and Kerry McCluggage are getting back into the syndication business, completing an equity infusion with Trifecta Entertainment.
Mr. McCluggage, former chairman of Paramount Television Group, and Mr. Sagansky, former president of CBS Entertainment, will join the 2-year-old company as investors and partners in the independent television boutique.
“We are thrilled to have Jeff and Kerry on board,” said Trifecta CEO Hank Cohen. “Their vast experience and strong relationships will give us better access to both the creative and financial communities and will lead to additional strategic opportunities that will enable us to continue our rapid growth.”
Trifecta Entertainment & Media was founded in late 2005 by former top MGM Television executives Michael Daraio, Scott Spungin, Shelley Brown and Mr. Cohen. It currently distributes five shows in syndication, including “Punk’d” for 2008 as well as “UFC Wired” and “Jack Hanna’s Into the Wild,” which are currently on the air.
In addition, the company is selling the advertising time for each of those shows as well as several others.
Trifecta is also in production on a pilot with a major cable network, and in development on numerous additional projects for a variety of different outlets.
“There are not many teams in Hollywood that can do it all—from production, to syndication, to ad sales. Trifecta aims to be a force in every segment in which they compete,” said Mr. Sagansky.
Mr. McCluggage and Mr. Sagansky are currently investors in Allumination Filmworks as well. They also have invested in Peace Arch Entertainment, a Canadian production and distribution company that is publicly traded on the Toronto and American stock exchanges. The two also are partners in several motion picture projects currently in development.
“We’ve been impressed by Trifecta’s rapid progress and high level of service and are convinced that they can continue to fill an expanding need for their full-service operation in the television marketplace,” Mr. McCluggage said.
