“Today” co-anchor Matt Lauer will host the two-hour NBC News special “Going for Gold,” scheduled to precede the announcement of Golden Globes winners Sunday night on NBC.
The strike by the Writers Guild of America forced the cancellation of the glitzy ceremony that annually kicks off the awards season because many actors said they would not cross writers’ picket lines.
Airing at 7 p.m. ET Sunday and produced as a special “Dateline NBC,” “Going for Gold” will feature one-on-one interviews done by NBC News correspondents with Globes nominees including James McAvoy, Sally Field, Ellen Page, Amy Adams, Kyra Sedgwick, William Shatner, Nikki Blonsky and Patricia Arquette.
In announcing details of the special Wednesday, NBC said there also will be predictions of winners by members of NBC’s “Football Night in America” analyst team and comments by caustic comedian Kathy Griffin.
The actual announcement of the winners will be made as a news conference by the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. to be televised on NBC starting at 9 p.m. ET Sunday.
