Veteran stations executive Diana Wilkin has joined CBS Television Network as president of affiliate relations.
She most recently was VP and general manager of CBS-affiliated WPEC-TV in West Paul Beach, Fla., which rose to No. 1 in the market under her leadership. She also has been active in broadcasting organizations, including serving on the CBS affiliates board.
She succeeds Peter Schruth, who recently left CBS after heading its affiliate relations department since 1995.
Before Ms. Wilkin moved to South Florida, she was VP and general manager of Clear Channel Television’s CBS-affiliated WAWS-TV and Fox-affiliated WTEV-TV in Jacksonville, Fla. She also had served as VP and general manager of CBS affiliate KGPE-TV in Fresno, Calif., Fox-affiliated KSAS-TV in Wichita, Kan., and Wilmington, N.C., station WSFX-TV.
She also served two stints with Fox Broadcasting Co. affiliate distribution.
“Diana is a strong, battle-tested station manager,” CBS Corp. President and CEO Leslie Moonves said in Thursday’s announcement. “She has distinguished herself as a rising leader in our industry and has invaluable experience overseeing distribution from the network perspective. I look forward to her many contributions during this time of so much change and opportunity in the network-affiliate model.”
“As someone who has operated local stations throughout the country, I am keenly aware of the opportunities and challenges facing our industry,” Ms. Wilkin said. “The network-affiliate relationship has proven itself to be one of the most durable business models in media; however, with the explosion of new media and heightened competition from cable, as well as topics like carriage fees brimming on the horizon, it’s vitally important we take a proactive role in all these issues. I’m eager to work with Leslie and everyone at CBS, as well as our entire affiliate body, as we work not only to strengthen our relations, but also fortify our business.”
