CNN has officially launched its beta version of iReport.com, a news site featuring unfiltered and uncensored user-generated content.
The new site builds on the success of CNN’s initial iReport initiative, where viewers were asked to submit photos and videos for review by editors; that site has received more than 100,000 video, photo and text submission since August 2006.
“CNN is tremendously excited to launch this new global community site,” said Susan Grant, executive vice president of CNN News Services. “We are thrilled to now have a platform where all iReport submissions are available for anyone and everyone who wants to view them.”
Although iReport is uncensored, users will be able to flag inappropriate content. Registered members will also be able to create profile pages and connect with other users through their video, photo, audio and text submissions.
A full-scale version of the site is expected to be released in March.
