CSTV is being renamed the CBS College Sports Network, effective next month.
The new name is part of a reorganization of the network’s assets and a new emphasis on original programming.
A key to the network’s new lineup will be “College Sports Tonight,” a news and information program covering college sports and providing previews of upcoming events.
CSTV also will be assuming CBS Sports graphics as part of the change.
The rebranding of CSTV comes as CBS, which historically has gotten little traction with the cable industry, attempts to get broader distribution for the channel.
“We believe this rebranding will better position our college sports cable network in the competitive world of cable television distribution,” said Sean McManus, president of CBS News and Sports. “It’s hard to imagine a cable company going forward that will not welcome the CBS Sports-branded channel to its cable systems. In this move, we further build on the value of this important new part of our company.”
Tony Petitti, executive VP and executive producer of CBS Sports, will oversee day-to-day operations of the network.
“The ability to bring unity to the CBS Sports brand across all media—broadcast network, cable, online and mobile—is something we know audiences and advertisers will continue to embrace,” Mr. Petitti said. “CBS College Sports Network will now be easily recognized as an asset of an already proud brand and distributor of the highest quality sports programming.”
CBS acquired CSTV in 2006 and last month said its operation was being integrated into CBS Sports.
