Fans Get to Vote on Slam-Dunk Contest Winner

Feb 14, 2008  •  Post A Comment

Fans will decide the winner of Saturday night’s slam-dunk contest during the National Basketball Association’s All-Star Weekend.
The competition is being televised by TNT. After the final round of dunks, fans will be able to vote on the NBA’s Web site or via text messaging. The player with the most votes wins the competition. In prior years, the winner was picked by judges, including former players.
The players participating in the slam-dunk contest—Rudy Gay of the Memphis Grizzlies, Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic, Jamario Moon of the Toronto Raptors and defending champion Gerald Green of the Minnesota Timberwolves—have all posted videos on YouTube and NBA.com to convince fans to vote for them.
To date, Mr. Gay’s video has been viewed on YouTube more than 1.8 million times, according to the NBA.
Fan voting also will be a part of selecting the MVP of the All-Star Game.
